The critically acclaimed singer, Dua Lipa, has recently reinvented Spears’ classic 2001, American Music Awards denim gown look. Joined by former boyfriend Justin Timberlake, who sported a matching denim ensemble, Spears seized headlines, thus etching this outfit detail in the annals of fashion history.
Lipa took the internet by storm, sharing pictures on social media of herself donning a corset dress from Blumarine’s Spring 2023 collection. The attire showcased intricate details like studs on the bust and down the front, a train, and a grommet belt embellished with an ornamental letter B. Accessorizing the outfit with an early ‘aughts-inspired crystal-embellished cross pendant choker, Lipa encapsulated vintage yet trendy vibes.
The award-winning “Don’t Start Now” singer complemented her outfit with sparkling eye shadow, intricate winged eyeliner, a glossy lip shimmering in rose tint and hair styled in soft waves.
Lipa referred to the 93rd show of her world tour, Future Nostalgia, in the caption of her Instagram post, exclaiming, “Show 93, baby!!!!!!!”
The denim masterpiece popularized by Spears was conceived by the celebrated styling duo, Kurt and Bart. They collaborated with Spears on numerous iconic Y2K attire ideas during that era. Steven Gerstein, a renowned costume designer, undertook the challenge of creating the matching denim suit for Timberlake.
Reflecting on the design process, Gerstein stated in an interview in 2020, “It was merely two youngsters yearning to do something unique, ‘super adorable and matching.’ Their ‘prom,’ in a sense. They had a clear vision, and we implemented it, reversing the typical creative process. In this instance, they dictated, ‘We want to do this,’ following which Kurt, Bart, and I collaborated to bring their vision to life.”
