On Sunday, Dua Lipa commanded attention at the high-profile Barbie premiere in Los Angeles, as she confidently owned a stunningly sheer outfit.
The 27-year-old hitmaker of “Don’t Start Now,” who recently embraced the Barbiecore aesthetic during her Greek vacation, graces the Greta Gerwig’s much-awaited film as Mermaid Barbie.
Lipa joined the ensemble cast, including the elegant Margot Robbie, who brought back memories of the iconic 60’s Mattel doll by recreating the vintage strapless trumpet gown. They all convened at the Shrine Auditorium.
The Grammy-awarded Lipa made her entrance on the glamorous pink carpet in a sleeveless, shimmering chainmail dress that twinkled under California’s radiant sunshine. Her dress’ see-through fabric revealed the stylishly simple choice of wearing only white underwear underneath.
She complemented her transparent dress by slipping into a pair of glossy silver, closed-toe heels partially concealed by her gown’s lengthy hem.
Her dress featured a plunging scooped neckline and a low cut at the back, accentuated as she confidently turned away from the cameras for the perfect pose.
Dua accessorized her dazzling appearance with a rhinestone necklace and silver dangling earrings. Matching the silvery theme, the singer flawlessly adorned silver rings on each finger.
Her extended dark curls were centered-parted and casually cascaded down her shoulders in gentle waves.
Lipa’s makeup mirrored the event’s glamour, highlighting her lashes with a generous layer of mascara and defining her cheekbones with warm blush and contour. She completed her look by adding a dark, nude-colored matte tint to her lips.
Ready for a photoshoot, the “New Rules” singer elegantly posed on the pink carpet under the sweltering summer sun and took memorable snaps in front of a pastel pink convertible later on.
Aside from her cameo appearance as Mermaid Barbie in the upcoming fantasy comedy that is set to release on July 21, Dua also had the opportunity to showcase her musical talent for the Barbie soundtrack. Her catchy track “Dance The Night” was released a few months earlier on May 25 as the lead single of the soundtrack.
Other music artists such as Ava Max, Ice Spice, Lizzo, Nicki Minaj, Billie Eilish, will also feature on the album. Interestingly, Ryan Gosling, who portrays Ken in the Live-action movie, will also contribute a song, “I’m Just Ken,” to the soundtrack.
Margot Robbie, the lead actress, has been occupied with a global press tour alongside other cast members, stopping in countries like Australia, South Korea, and Mexico.
Greta Gerwig, known for directing acclaimed films like “Little Women” (2019) and “Lady Bird” (2017), took the helm for the upcoming fantasy-comedy and also co-wrote the screenplay with Noah Baumbach.
The Barbie movie stars Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, and Dua Lipa, along with America Ferrera, Will Ferrell, Issa Rae, Hari Nef, and Simu Liu. The film contains various versions of both the Barbie and Ken dolls with actress Helen Mirren serving as the narrator.
With a significant budget of $100 million, the film plot centers around Barbie and Ken journeying to the real world in pursuit of true happiness.
Filming kickstarted in 2022 at Warner Bros. Studios in England, while several outdoor shots were captured in locations like Los Angeles’s Venice neighborhood.
During a recent interview withย Rolling Stone, Greta revealed that Margot felt ‘self-conscious’ while filming the Venice Beach scene, an experience that translated into a fascinating reality before their eyes.
