In a profound tale of maternity and survival, a stray canine in Turkey, affectionately called “Mom” by compassionate vets, left a whole clinic in awe when she delivered her severely sick newborn to them, epitomizing the power of a mother’s love.
The astounding incident, recorded by surveillance cameras, unfolded in the rain-drenched streets of Istanbul’s Beylikduzu district on January 13. The mother dog, clutching her fragile pup in her mouth, approached the clinic, silently pleading for assistance.
At the Beylikduzu Alfa Veterinary Clinic, Emir, a dedicated vet technician, spotted the patient mother eagerly waiting outdoors. Swiftly and without hesitation, he answered her silent plea, opened the door, and gently took the pup from her. The infant appeared lifeless upon initial inspection.
Vet Baturalp Dogan recounted the unique event, saying, “My colleague, Emir, noticed a dog patiently waiting at the door. As he opens it and takes a look, the situation seemed confusing. Seeing a dog appear with a puppy in its mouth and then dropping the puppy on the floor was surreal. It was challenging to immediately deduce whether the puppy was living.”
The infant pup was freezing cold to the touch. The team initially feared the worst, believing the pup may have already passed. However, as Emir listened through the stethoscope, he heard a faint but encouraging heartbeat.
Dogan shared the heartening moment, stating, “Upon checking with a needle, we noticed an incredibly slow heartbeat. This glimmer of hope instilled the belief that maybe he would survive, and this sparked our determination to fight.”
Springing into action, the team administered an adrenaline shot and employed a hair dryer to warm up the tiny canine. Throughout this tense situation, the loyal mother dog faithfully remained nearby, watching their every move as they worked on her offspring.
Thanks to their dedicated efforts, the little warrior survived. Upon further discovery, it was revealed that another male pup from Mom’s litter had been brought in by a local resident earlier the same day. These two pups were the sole survivors from a litter of six.
With relief, Dogan said, “The mother dog and her two puppies are doing extremely well at present, their health steadily improving. Their continuous progress is heartening, however, the journey ahead remains a process… As the days roll on, we remain hopeful.”
