Burberry, under the helm of creative director Riccardo Tisci, has embarked on an exhilarating journey where tradition meets modernity. From British culture to contemporary fashion, sportswear to elegance, Tisci’s Burberry is all about cross-pollination, exemplified in its Spring-Summer 2020 (SS20) campaign.
Tisci reflects, “I’ve spent the past few seasons shaping a new identity and visual vocabulary for Burberry. This campaign feels like the beginning. I wanted to celebrate the men and women who represent Burberry โ familiar faces who have grown with me and fresh ones partaking in this journey with me. They encapsulate the sophistication and attitude at the core of the house today.”
He handpicked the muses, not just models, striking a pose against a classic beige backdrop (a nod to Burberry’s iconic colour) for renowned photographers Inez & Vinoodh. Highlighted among these faces are Bella and Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner, who expressed their delight at collaborating with Tisci.
Kendall extolled, “His raw passion, boundless energy, and creative references are truly infectious on set. Watching what he’s crafting with Burberry is incredible, and it’s a pleasure and privilege to be part of the journey”.
Alongside other campaign luminaries such as top model Freja Beha Erichsen, they don striking pieces from the SS20 collection named Evolution, unveiled at the Troubadour White City Theatre during last year’s London Fashion Week. Their outfits meld inspirations from Queen Victoria’s era with reinterpretations of Thomas Burberry’s early designs โ elegantly tailored pieces juxstaposed with sporty threads, feather dresses alongside monkey print silk shirts, and rugby shirts paired with quintessential accessories like the TB Bag, Lola, and Pocket Bag.
The collection’s trench coats are showstoppers. These signature Burberry pieces range from the classic design that can be cinched at the waist to form a skirt or flow like wings, to designs embellished with crystals.
